Richard (I) Coeur de Lion
 (Count of Poitou and Duke of Aquitaine 1172-1185, King of England 1189-1199)

The coins struck by Richard (the Lionhearted) in his French possession are the only coins to bear his name. His English coinage was struck in the name of his father. For English coins of Richard I click here

R in Elias but these are rarer than he thought. As a denomination, the obole is indeed only R but as a type, this coin is R2, and as a subtype R3. In Withers and Ford, Richard I oboles of Poitou as a whole are R. Those with no marks on the obverse (WF345) are R2 and those with no marks on the reverse either (WF354A) are R3.
