Scribonius Libo (62 B.C.), Silver Denarius, 3.94g., 19mm, Rome mint, diademed head of Bonus Eventus right, LIBO BON EVENT, rev., Puteal Scribonianum (Scribonian Well), decorated with garland and two lyres; anvil at base, (Crawford 416/1c; Sydenham 928; Scribonia 8b), good extremely fine, toned. $350 SOLD

This type commemorates the restoration of the Scribonian Well by L. Scribonius Libo in 63 B.C., the wellhead had been either dedicated or restored by one of his ancestors around a century earlier. The sacred site was said to have struck by lightning and later became a haunt of money-lenders, litigants and business people, given it's proximity to the law courts.

Sydenham 752a. RSC Cornelia 55), obverse slightly off-centre otherwise good extremely fine, attractively toned. $395 SOLD

Brocchus (62 B.C.), Silver Denarius, 3.99g., 19mm, Rome mint, wreathed, draped bust right of Ceres, with lock of hair falling down neck; to left, grain ear; to right, grain of barley, rev., curule chair between fasces with axes, (S.365; Furia 23a; Cr. 414/1; Syd. 902a), good very fine, toned. $295

RPM37 - Roman Republic, L. Calpurnius Piso Caesoninus and Q. Servilius Caepio, Quaestors (100 B.C.), Silver Denarius, 4.02g., 19mm, head of Saturn facing right with PISO and star behind head and CAEPIO below and Q below chin,  rev., the two quaestors seated left between two ears of corn, AD. FRV. EMV./EX. S. C. in exergue, (RSC I Calpurnia 5a), a bold well centered strike on an elongated flan, extremely fine, toned. $345 SOLD

RSC notes: A law was passed to allow the people to buy corn at " a semis and a triens for a modius. The senate ordered the quaestors to strike a special issue of coins so that they could fulfil the provisions of this law.
