JCN59 - The Kingdom of Mercia, Offa (757-796), Penny, 1.09g., Light coinage, Serpent Wreath / Cross of Lobes (c.765-c.792) Canterbury mint, moneyer Tirweald, OFFA REX around pellet and rosette, all within a serpent headed wreath, rev., long cross botonnée within a cross of lobes, over small saltire of lobes, +TIRWALD in angles, (N -; CEB -; S.-; Chick 131 this coin), edge slightly frayed and small wave in flan, otherwise gooD very fine, toned, extremely rare. $1595 SOLD

Found at Elford, near Tamworth, Staffordshire, England (SK 1910).

The EMC database notes read: "'The reverse is exactly like those used by Dud on Blunt 26-28; the obverse appears to be unparalleled. This is the first coin of Offa actually found near his primary residence at Tamworth.'"

H4310 - The Kingdom of Mercia, Offa (757-796), Penny, 1.22g., Light coinage, Cross on Saltire Obverses (c.765-c.792) Canterbury mint, moneyer Ealhræd, OFFA REX in angles of a long cross botonnée on a small cross botonnée, rev., Celtic cross, cross and pellets in centre, +ALRED in angles, (N 262-5/N 291-2; CEB 9,12,19-20/48-9; S 904; same dies as EMC 2001.1168), edge slightly frayed, rough in parts on obverse, otherwise very fine, extremely rare. $1295 SOLD

H4231 - The Kingdom of Mercia, Offa (757-796), Silver Penny, 1.27g., Heavy coinage (792-796), London mint, moneyer Winoth, +OFFA REX, regal name between two lines, REX below and M above, rev., moneyer’s name +VVINOð in two lines divided by a doubel-lobed "dog bone", (N.326; S.908; Chick 214k this coin), edge frayed otherwise good metal and sound fabric, almost extremely fine, very rare. $1795 NOW $1595 SOLD

H4224 - The Kingdom of Mercia, Offa (757-796), Silver Penny, 1.37g., Heavy coinage (792-796), Canterbury mint, moneyer Osmod, +OFFA REX, regal name between two lines, REX below and M above, rev., moneyer’s name +OSMOD between two lines, ornaments above and below, (N.320; S.908), a full round coin of good metal and sound fabric, problem free, almost extremely fine, very rare, rarely seen in this condition for this reign. $5175 SOLD
